Junior / Young Vaulter World Championships and Senior European Championships 2025 Stadl Paura - Austria 27th July – 3rd August
From the 27th July - 3rd August a large contingent of BEV Vaulters headed out to the championship in Austria. 11 vaulters, 4 lungers & 5 horses in total. Representing GB were SSS competing in the junior squad, Milly Jessett, Evie Jessett & Cailtin Mitchel contesting the junior individual and Milly & Evie contesting the junior pairs. In the Young Vaulter class, were Abigail Ward Ursula Levett as individuals and they both were also competing in the senior pairs together. *(For full entries see list at end)* The stables opened on the sunday, where Willy, Jedi and flloyd all arrived safely having travelled from germany. Monday saw the arrival of Jupiter from Austria and Jimmy from Poland and all the vaulters. Everyone settled in well, with good conditions for the horses – clean and airy stables, space for grazing and walking and lots arena space for exercising. All vaulter were stayin off site in local towns so only short drives away. Tuesday was the trot up, where all our horses sailed through no problems looking super smart. The rest of the day was filled with official training in the main arena, were the horses get to acclimatise to the arena and surroundings, having 4 minutes each. Everyone had a good session and came away happy and confident. Wednesday was the start of competition and it was nice for our vaulters to see some British faces among the many officials at the championship, as John Eccles was present as Technical delegate and Sarah Gemmell was part of the judging team (total of 12 judges rotating thought the classes). Each class has 8 judges every round! The junior individual’s started us off, with great sets of compulsories for Milly and Evie on Jupiter. Cailtin was first of 3 vaulters on Jimmy and she was doing a great job until he saw something in the surroundings and took fright, meaning Caitlin had to miss her stand and repeat her flank which affected the scores. She did a great job under the circumstances and spent a while trying to calm jimmy during her set. This meant they were placed: 20th Milly 7.1, 29th Evie 7.0 & 55th Cailtin 5.7. The afternoon saw Urrsie and Abi complete their compulsories with Willy & Jedi and both did great sets, finishing in 10th for Urrsie - 7.8 & 20th for Abi 7.3. All scores were very close and the standard in all classes extremely high. The evening was the opening ceremony where the whole GB team got together in the team kit and paraded round the arena with the other nations and then watched a display and the finally was a group dance by all nations together in the arena which was pretty spectacular and lots of fun.Thursday saw the team get going with a solid set of compulsories with Floyd , so sitting in 10th on 6.0. The afternoon saw the first freestyle with the junior pairs starting, with Milly & Evie doing a fantastic round leaving them in 4th place, very close on 7.5. with a round to go It was a busy day for these girls as their freestyle for individual was next on and first up of ours was Evie, who was doing a great round until Jupiter also took fright towards the end of her routine, causing some disruption to the scores, this also meant he had no time to settle and Milly therefor couldn’t show any of her normal routine, just a mount and patting, try to relax him. Cailtin was next but jimmy was still upset today so again her routine was limited. It was a tough day for the junior girls but they all showed maturity and composure, supporting each other and I had some lovely comments from other nations watching about the vaulters consideration of their horse, when the horse’s were upset. The final Scores were 23rd Evie 7.2, 53rd Caitlin 5.4 & 55th Milly on 5.2.The friday was the tech test for Abi & Urrsie who both again produced clean great rounds with both horse behaving impeccably, gaining fab scores with Urrsie on 7.4 and Abi on 7.0. Then we had freestyle for the junior Squad, again producing a great routine and enjoying every minute, scoring a 6.6, so finishing the round in 10th on 6.3 and qualifying for the final. The afternoon was the start of the senior pairs with Abi and Urrsie, on Willy with Pauline lunging, doing a great round in a hotly contested class, finishing on 7.47 in 7th place with a round to go.Saturday saw the final for the junior squad and junior pairs. The Squad were up first of ours and again grew in confidence and upped their game even more, gaining 7.3 for the round and climbing to final 8th place in the class. The junior pairs final again saw Jupiter unsettled, the girls were able to do parts and less difficult bits, but meant a restricted performance ending up in 9th place, on 6.2. The final day, Sunday was the final for young vaulter and senior pairs , so a busy one for Abi and Urrsie. They again competed clean, great routines, ending up in 7th in pairs with a 7.8 in this final round. In young vaulter both looked to enjoy their free styles ending up infinal positions over the 3 rounds of 17th for Urssie on 7.5 and 22rd for Abi on 7.2. All the vaulters, their lungers, grooms and supporters did a great job all week, with good team spirit and everyone supporting each other, even when things didnt go quite to plan. All the prep work and mountain of paperwork was done beforehand by Jane Eccles, which meant it was smooth and easy for those on the ground at the event, so a big thank you to her for all her hard work for this event and all the internationals these vaulters attend throughout the year.
